John D was born and raised on the coast of N.C. He grew up in a commercial fishing family. He’s been on boats since he can remember. He has built, lived, and worked on boats. Riggs has been in the yacht brokerage business since 1997 after a friend told him, “Find the one thing you love to do in life and figure out a way to make a living doing it, and you will be successful.” Being close to the water, boats and being around salty people was the one thing that always made him happy. He was living in Morehead City, N.C. at the time when he was asked to help start a Yacht brokerage in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. Riggs' favorite part of the business is meeting wonderful people and making friends. John D is married to his best friend Robin and a proud father of two beautiful kids, Ella and Grace. John D's other marine related experiences include: Marine Engine rebuilds, Diving, Commercial Fishing, Yacht deliveries, and Tournament fishing.

Thom is a native Mississippian where he attended the University of Southern Mississippi, best known for Brett Favre and football. His love of water, however, came from road trips made with family and friends visiting the Gulf Coast in the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

Thom and his beautiful wife, Jeanine were blessed with two sons and one daughter. After 40 years, their family has grown to include two daughters-in-law and two granddaughters. While Thom's prior career took him on a moving tour of the southeast, he and his family settled in High Point, NC where all 3 children graduated high school. During his extensive career, Thom held executive positions with public companies which included more than 400 retail locations managed, over 1200 wholesale distributors and 40 manufacturing facilities both domestically and internationally, prior to his introduction into boating. 

Thom’s sons attended UNCW and during their visits, he and his wife fell in love with Wrightsville Beach and its surrounding areas. 

Because Thom's dream was to live near salt water, when the opportunity to move to Wilmington as General Manager of MarineMax, the world’s largest boat retailer was offered, he gladly accepted.

Thom’s intrinsic knowledge of luxury yachts stems from his visits to several prestigious yacht building facilities both stateside and abroad in Italy. During his previous tenure, Thom attended many world-class yacht expos and international boat shows, wherein he acted as a liaison between clients and manufacturers such as Sea Ray, Boston Whaler, Azimut, Ocean Alexander, Galeon, Chris-Craft, Hatteras, and Pursuit.

Today, Thom’s focus is on providing first-class, personalized service to each of his luxury motor yacht clients. Licensed and bonded in Florida, Thom’s  expertise and industry connections allows him to meet his clients needs, whether listing, selling or locating their next yacht.

THOM CROSS

Jordan was born and raised in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Growing up near the beach and being a part of a fishing family, he has not thought about leaving. He is a licensed charter captain and runs his own charter operation, Circle Bak Charters. His father has also owned his own charter operation for over 30 years and has been working with him since he was 13 years old. From fishing on many charter boats throughout Wrightsville Beach and private boats throughout North Carolina, Jordan has experienced many different types of sportfishing boats. Jordan has participated in many tournaments on North Carolina's Crystal Coast such as the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, the Ducks Unlimited Billfish tournament, and the Pirates Cove Billfish tournament. Being near the water and boats is what he loves. Jordan takes the knowledge that he has and helps his clients find the boat that fits them and makes them happy.

JORDAN VASS

Born and raised in Wilmington, Brent was introduced to fishing at the young age of 8. During his high school and college years, he spent most of his time fishing on charter boats and commercial boats out of Wrightsville Beach. After college, he received his captains license and was offered a captain’s position on a local charter boat. During his 4 years of charter fishing, he was able to meet lots of people who were very influential to his career path, which lead him into the private side of the marine industry. At the beginning of his private career, Brent went back to the cockpit as a mate on a 75’ Merritt. After three years, Brent moved on to a 52’ Buddy Davis. As time went on, Brent became friends with Donnie Caison of Caison Yachts where he helped build the 64’ Caison, “Blue Dog”. Brent has traveled all over during his 20-year career as a private captain with lots of experience in different locations. He has extensive experience in custom boat production, travel planning, fishing, and knowledge on maintaining and repairing all yacht systems. Brent enthusiastically combines yacht sales with his full-time career as a private captain in the Pacific, where he promotes Riggs Yacht Sales.

BRENT JOHNSTON

Ian was raised in Greensboro, spending his summers on the coast of NC in Beaufort. During those summers, Ian discovered his love for the water. He spent most days on the water, fishing and exploring the Crystal Coast. He started his first job detailing boats at Town Creek Marina when he was 15 years old, commuting down Taylor’s Creek on his skiff. The following summer he started working as a dock hand at Olde Towne Yacht Club and remained there each summer until starting college at UNCW. Before leaving for college, Ian spent his last month at Greensboro Day School doing his senior project at Shearline Boatworks where he realized his passion for custom boatbuilding. While at UNCW he worked at Atlantic Marine and finished his college career working at Johnson Custom Boats doing restorations and refits. Ian was also involved in their family business, NCboatinglifestyle magazine. The magazine gave him opportunities to visit various boat builders, manufacturers, and dealers across North Carolina and stay involved in the boating community. IAN BALLANTYNE

Born and raised on Lake Butte des Morts in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Jay has never been far from a boat. His parents took him for a cruise on the family Sea Ray the day he came home from the hospital. As a record holding competitive swimmer, Jay has spent his life close to water. His career started with Skipper Buds at 17 years old. It was here he began building lifelong industry relationships and earned the nickname “Sea Ray” Jay. It didn’t take much convincing when Skipper Buds presented him with an opportunity to exchange brutal winters for Carolina breezes in 1998. Here Jay continued gaining in-depth knowledge of all facets of the Maritime Industry as a Delivery Captain, Marina Manager and top producing Sales Expert. Jay remained with the company as it changed hands when MarineMax took over the business. His industry success continued for years and he was promoted to Service Manager in 2012. The department experienced exponential growth through revenue and relationships with Jay at the helm. When approached with an opportunity at Riggs Yacht Sales, Jay was unable to turn it down. Jay enjoys spending time with his wife Brandi, and their three boys Connor, Cray and Max. His love of water has transformed into a passion for showing others the simple yet extraordinary joys to be found in the boating lifestyle.
